Choosing your wedding photographer is one of the most important decisions you will make for your wedding. We might be biased, but we might even say it is the MOST important decision. Your wedding photos will forever preserve your amazing, special day. Your photos will be the carriage that brings you back to cherished moments like your first kiss as a married couple, the first dance with your spouse, or the rockin' party you had post-ceremony surrounded by family and friends.
Your wedding photographer is one of the vendors you will spend the most time with during your day so it is important to not just find the right photographer, but find the right photographer for YOU.
The first meeting with your photographer is the best time to figure out if it will be a match in photographer-client heaven and there are some questions you must get answers to before sealing the deal.
1. Do you charge travel fees?
Some photographers charge additional fees based on distance and mileage. Be sure to ask your photographer if they have a travel policy and what the details are. It's horrible to finally make a decision on your photographer, only to find the contract is riddled with hidden fees about items you didn't even think to ask about.
Here are You Live the Moment Photography we never add travel fees or charge more for mileage.
2. What staff will you send to my event?
A great question to ask is how many photographers will be working your event. Let's face it. Whether you're having a HUGE wedding with 350 guests or a small, intimate event with 50 people, one person can't be everywhere at once. Most events require at least two photographers to ensure all your epic moments are captured perfectly. Ask your photographer what their policy is to be sure it fits your expectations and your event.
There's no need to ask us that question, however. We have a team of assistant photographers and associates that we rely on so no matter what the event is, we send two of our skilled team members to capture every moment.
3. What happens if your camera breaks? Do you have a contingency plan?
Sometimes there are accidents that you can't predict, but a broken lens or piece of equipment is not something you should be worried about on your big day! Any professional photographer will have back up equipment just in case something should happen.
You Live the Moment Photography has 28+ years of experience photographing live events so we know things don't always go the way we plan. Nevertheless, we have multiple back up cameras, lens, lights, and more so that should anything go awry, your event will be beautifully captured just as planned!
4. How many photos will you give us after our event?
Be sure to ask this question of your potential photographer! Sometimes you might find photographers who will limit the number of images they give you after your event. Whether that is because they want to save time or effort, the result is the same - you are getting a limited amount of photos from your special day. That could mean you might be missing a candid moment you might not have otherwise received!
With us, you will never have that worry. We never limit the number of images you receive to a particular quantity. You will receive what we shoot (minus the accidental snap shots of our shoes as we hurry over to capture that candid kiss, that is!). Sometimes that means 900 photos and sometimes that means 1200 photos, depending on your event, needs, and number of guests.
5. How many photos will be edited or effected?
Sometimes we see photographers who offer only a select number of images fully edited, effected, and finished. Ask your potential photographer what their policy is before signing on the dotted line.
For us, that policy is like offering a car, but only delivering you a steering wheel. ALL of our photos are fully edited with finesse and expertise and there is never any limit on the number of effects we will enhance your photos with.
We hope you now have a better idea of what to ask your potential photographer before you sign the contract.
